Getting Started

In order to get the ball rolling, as a group we thought it would be best to decide upon which of the three given themes we would like to lean towards. By choosing the theme first we thought that it would then be easier to come up with a plot to match it, as opposed to trying to match a plot we'd already come up with to one of the themes.

We therefore looked over each of the themes one at a time and attempted to decide which of them we were most drawn to, along with which one suited the kind of film we each wanted to make. I personally didn't want to choose 'The Greatest Day' as I felt as though it may be too on the nose, with little room for interpretation, therefore limiting how far we could go with it plot-wise. I was happy to see that my group shared the same sentiments. We then looked at 'Karma' as a possible theme, but in the end realised that this could be too complicated for a short piece, as Karma would suggest we would have to show a multitude of things - the two main things being the set-up for the karma, the action itself and the karma for doing the action. This of course left us with 'It's Over', of which we felt was open ended enough for us to still have plenty of room to explore a plethora of possibilities, and yet closed enough that we would still have a healthy starting point. This is therefore the theme we decided to progress with.

From this decision, we decided to further explore what 'It's Over' could mean or symbolize, and so in order to do this we created a shared word document, where each of us could place their ideas for the others to see. The first thing we did on there was come up with a list of things that can indeed be 'over', or things that could come to an end.

As you can see we came up with plenty of topics for the film that could link well with the theme, and so next we tried to narrow it down to the ones we liked the most. In order to accomplish this, we established a red light system, green for ideas we liked, orange for ideas we weren't sure on and red for ideas we didn't like as much. We eventually narrowed it down to 5 ideas we liked, Life, Dreams, Phone Calls, Time and Childhood.

We then allocated each idea to a person in the group and decided to go away and each come up with a concept for the short film. Once we have done this, we will reconvene and decide on the one we like the most. In the meantime however, we also had to think about the Treatment, and so made a list of all the things that needed to be done, and once again allocated each item to an individual to complete before the deadline.

Some things we assigned to the whole group, such as the title of the film and the film roles as we believe they're decisions that no one person should be in charge of. I nominated myself to do all the storyboards, and hope to begin them promptly, once they're finished I'll make sure to post them on this blog.

Introductory Post

Hello and welcome to my Digital Filmmaking Blog. Over the next few months, I will post on here my group and I's progress on the project, along with my further research into the topic. It is my goal to keep regular updates on the both the things we achieve as a group and the extra bits I do alone, therefore making this blog a showcase of my overall efforts.

Going into the project, I am both excited and apprehensive, as I have done similar types of projects in the past and so know the up's and down's that can come with it. Within my group, I am good friends with both Elliot and Amelia, and am looking forward to getting to know both Emma and Kg. In the little time we've talked to one another face to face and from what we've talked about in our group chat, we seem to have a similar basic idea as to where we want to take the project, which is hopefully a good indication of what's to come.

I obviously can't know for sure what's to come, so I can only hope and pray that it goes as well as it possibly can.
